GLAM is not an imitation.

(1) It is key to the understanding of GLAM that we realize that wearing the clothes of the oppressor in the service of GLAM has little or nothing to do with imitating the roles legitimized by Pop Culture and the fashion industry. (2) Drag Queens and Glamour Dykes are not merely imitations of "real women" as conceived of in their popular representations. By confusing and complicating the gender representations expected of them, they are creating further possibilities which move beyond the limited conceptions of gender, fashion, and sex which are readily available.
